Walter Mehring (1896–1981) was a German writer, essayist, and satirist. He published his first poems in Herwarth Walden’s journal „Der Sturm“ in 1915 and later became a co-founder of the Berlin Dada section. His poetry of the early 1920s is associated with Expressionism. Mehring regularly contributed to literary journals, including „Die Weltbühne“ and „Das Tage-Buch“, and wrote chansons and texts for Berlin cabarets. Alongside Kurt Tucholsky, he was among the founders of Berlin’s political-literary cabaret. He faced trial over his poem „Der Coitus im Dreimäderlhaus“. In 1941 he fled via France to the United States and returned to Europe in 1953.
