Hermann Vinke

Hermann Vinke (born in 1940 in Rhede an der Ems, Germany) is a German journalist and author. He studied history and sociology at the University of Hamburg and worked as an editor, including for NDR. From 1981 to 1986, he was the ARD’s Far East correspondent in Tokyo, followed by work as an NDR/WDR correspondent in Washington until 1990. He then headed the ARD studio for Berlin and East Germany and served as radio program director at Radio Bremen from 1992 to 2000. From 1978 onward, Vinke also published nonfiction and books for young readers, often addressing the Nazi past and resistance to it. His book “Das kurze Leben der Sophie Scholl” received the German Youth Literature Prize.
