Volker Sommer, born in 1954 in Holzhausen am Reinhardswald in northern Hesse, is an evolutionary biologist and primatologist. He studied biology, chemistry and theology. His professional positions included a professorship in evolutionary anthropology at University College London. In Asia and Africa, and also in South America, he researched the ecology and behaviour of monkeys, apes and other wild primates. Sommer has published books on sociobiology and evolutionary biology.
