Vance

Vance, whose real name was William van Cutsem, was born in Anderlecht in 1935. The Belgian comics artist studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Brussels and initially worked as a commercial artist. In 1964, he created the seafaring series “Howard Flynn” for the magazine Tintin; it was inspired by Horatio Hornblower. His other notable works include the western “Ringo,” “Bruno Brazil” with Greg, “Bob Morane,” based on the novels by Henri Vernes, the medieval series “Roderik” and “Ramiro,” “Bruce J. Hawker” with Duchâteau, and “XIII,” which began in 1983 from a script by Jean van Hamme.
