Ulrike Schmitzer, born in Salzburg in 1967, studied journalism and art history. She has worked as an editor at Ö1, a freelance filmmaker and an author. Her published works include the novels »Die falsche Witwe«, »Die Flut«, »Es ist die Schwerkraft, die uns umbringt« and »Die Stille der Gletscher«, as well as a graphic novel about Joy Adamson. She received the Special Prize of the State Prize for Science Journalism in 2016 for »Es ist die Schwerkraft, die uns umbringt« and the Inge Morath Prize for Science Journalism in 2012.
