Ulrike Gerold

Ulrike Gerold (born 1956) studied German literature, theatre studies and art history at the Free University of Berlin. She subsequently worked as a production and publicity dramaturge at several theatres. From 1993 onward, she worked as a freelance journalist covering culture, science and travel. Beginning in 1997, she published novels and nonfiction for children and young adults as well as travel stories; from 2012, she also wrote novels and crime fiction for adults together with Wolfram Hänel. In 2003, Gerold and Hänel received the Friedrich Gerstäcker Prize of the city of Braunschweig.
