Ulrich Sonnenberg (born 1955) completed a bookseller’s apprenticeship in Hanover and subsequently spent several years in Copenhagen. In 1986, he co-founded the Frankfurter Verlagsanstalt with Klaus Schöffling. From 1993 to 2003, he headed distribution at Suhrkamp Verlag. From 2004 onward, Sonnenberg worked as a freelance translator and editor. He translated works from Danish and Norwegian, including books by Hans Christian Andersen, Herman Bang, Carsten Jensen, Karl Ove Knausgård, and Johannes V. Jensen. In 2013, he received the Danish Translator’s Prize jointly with Peter Urban-Halle.
