Tove Ditlevsen

Tove Ditlevsen (1917–1976) was a Danish writer and poet. She was born into a working-class family in Copenhagen, left school at 14 and her parents’ home at 17, and subsequently worked as a domestic servant and office assistant, among other jobs. She was already writing poetry during this period, and her first collection of poems brought her recognition at the age of 20. Among her major works is the autobiographical Copenhagen Trilogy, consisting of Childhood, Youth and Dependency. Her novel The Faces was published in Danish in 1968.
