Thomas Stachelhaus, born in Bochum in 1959, studied photojournalism and architectural photography after completing training as a photographer. He subsequently worked as a freelance photographer for publishers, companies, and various organizations. His work frequently focuses on the Ruhr region, where he was born. In addition to several books of photographs, he produced the extensive documentary “Was bleibt ist die Zukunft” (“What Remains Is the Future”) about structural change in the Ruhr area. His photographs have been exhibited in Germany, Poland, and Switzerland. He also accompanied adventurer Joey Kelly on extreme expeditions around the world.
