Thomas Schirrmacher (born 1960) is a theologian and sociologist of religion. From 2021 to 2024, he served as Secretary General of the World Evangelical Alliance, having previously held various leadership positions within the organization. He founded the Martin Bucer Seminary and was its long-serving rector. He also taught, among other subjects, the sociology of religion in Timișoara and human rights and religious freedom at Regent’s Park College, University of Oxford. As an author and editor, he has written on theology, comparative religion, human rights, and religious freedom. His publications include “Oppressed Women,” “Human Rights,” “Human Trafficking,” and “Koran and Bible.” He has authored or edited more than 100 books, translated into 18 languages.
