Thomas Cleary

Thomas Cleary translated more than fifty volumes of Buddhist, Taoist, Confucian, and Islamic texts into English. He held a doctorate in East Asian Languages and Societies from Harvard University. He also wrote introductions to numerous classics, including Sun Tzu’s *The Art of War* and Miyamoto Musashi’s *The Book of Five Rings*.
