Thomas Billhardt

Thomas Billhardt (born 1937 in Chemnitz) is a German photographer. After studying, he worked as a freelance photographer, as a group leader at the German Advertising Agency (DEWAG) in Berlin, and as head of Studio Billhardt at the publishing house Verlag für Agitations- und Anschauungsmittel. He published numerous illustrated books and exhibited internationally, including in London, Moscow, Paris, Prague, and Hanoi. He became particularly known for his photographs from Vietnam, Palestine, and Nicaragua. Billhardt regarded himself as an artistic and political photographer. His publications include the photobook “Berlin Alexanderplatz 1958–2022” (2023).
