Susanne Weigelin-Schwiedrzik

Susanne Weigelin-Schwiedrzik studied Sinology, political science, Japanese studies and the Chinese language in Bonn, Beijing and Bochum. In 1989, she became professor of modern Sinology at Heidelberg University, where she taught until 2002. She subsequently served as professor of Sinology at the University of Vienna until 2020. Her research has focused on modern China, as well as Chinese historiography and historical thought since the end of the imperial era. She first travelled to China in 1975 and studied at the Faculty of Philosophy in Beijing.
