Stefan Wolle

Stefan Wolle, born in Halle (Saale) in 1950, studied history at the Humboldt University of Berlin. After being expelled from the university for political reasons in 1972, he initially worked in an industrial plant before resuming his studies. From 1976 to 1989, he worked at the Academy of Sciences of the GDR and received his doctorate in 1984. During the political transition of 1989–90, he was involved in the dissolution of the Ministry for State Security. He subsequently worked, among other institutions, at Humboldt University and Freie Universität Berlin and for the Foundation for the Reappraisal of the SED Dictatorship. He later served as scientific director of the DDR Museum and published numerous books on the history of East Germany.
