Shashi Tharoor, born in London in 1956, is an Indian writer, diplomat and politician. He began working for the United Nations in 1978 and held senior positions under Kofi Annan, including a role in public information. From 2009 to 2010, he served as a minister of state in India’s Ministry of External Affairs. Tharoor has published numerous novels, works of nonfiction, short stories, articles and political commentaries. His literary work has received several awards, including the Commonwealth Writers’ Prize.
