Safae el Khannoussi

Safae el Khannoussi was born in Tangier, Morocco, in 1994. Her work bridges literature and political philosophy, addressing themes including exile, flight, and the paradoxical experience of migrants. Her debut novel, “Oroppa”—Arabic for “Europe”—was published in the original in 2024. The novel was named Het Parool’s best book of 2024 and received the De Boon Prize and the Libris Prize for the best Dutch novel in 2025. At the end of 2024, the Dutch newspaper de Volkskrant named el Khannoussi its literary talent of the year for 2025.
