Ruth Melcer

Ruth Melcer, née Cukierman, was born in 1935 in Tomaszów Mazowiecki, Poland. As a child, she was sent to the Blizyn labor camp and in 1944 to Auschwitz-Birkenau. In 1946, the surviving members of her family left Poland, and her parents settled in Munich. After spending two years in Israel, Melcer returned to Munich in 1955. She married Josef Melcer in 1959 and had three children. According to her biography, she only learned to cook after her marriage.
