Rosel Klein was born in September 1940 in Niehuus, Germany, the daughter of a customs officer. She moved to Hamburg in 1951. Together with her husband, she spent periods in Saudi Arabia and lived in Kuwait with her family from 1977 to 1985. In Kuwait, she founded Kuwait Hygiene Produkt, a company run exclusively by women. After returning to Germany, she owned three hotel businesses in Hamburg.
