Ronald Syme

Sir Ronald Syme (1903–1989) taught ancient history at Brasenose College, Oxford, from 1949 to 1970. His research focused on the history and historiography of the Roman imperial period. He received numerous distinctions for his scholarly work, including the Order Pour le Mérite for Sciences and Arts in 1975. He was also a member of several learned academies.
