Ronald Colman (born 1947 in Australia) studied at the Australian National University and earned a doctorate with distinction from Columbia University in New York. He founded GPI Atlantic, a nonprofit research group that spent more than 15 years developing the Genuine Progress Index. The index accounts for social and environmental factors alongside economic ones and challenges growth measures based solely on gross domestic product. Colman worked with governments and communities in Canada, Bhutan, and New Zealand on sustainable development. He spent ten years in Bhutan, collaborating with the government and international experts on a new global economic model.
