Rolf Steininger

Rolf Steininger (born 1942 in Plettenberg, Westphalia) is a historian and emeritus university professor. He studied history and English in Marburg, Göttingen, Munich, Lancaster and Cardiff, and earned his doctorate and habilitation at the University of Hanover. He taught there until 1983. From 1984 to 2010, he headed the Institute of Contemporary History at the University of Innsbruck; he also taught at Free University of Bozen. Steininger was a Senior Fellow of the Eisenhower Center for American Studies at the University of New Orleans and a Jean Monnet Professor. He held visiting professorships in Tel Aviv, Queensland and New Orleans. He published extensively on contemporary history and contributed to award-winning radio, film and television documentaries. He received the Tyrolean State Prize for Science.
