Roberto Bolano

Roberto Bolaño (1953–2003) was a Chilean writer and poet. Born in Santiago de Chile, he spent part of his youth in Mexico and went into exile after the 1973 military coup; in 1976 he moved to Spain. His best-known works include The Savage Detectives, 2666, Distant Star, and Murdering Whores. He received the National Book Critics Circle Award for the American edition of 2666. Bolaño died in Barcelona in 2003 while working on 2666.
