Robert Thorogood was born in Colchester and studied history at the University of Cambridge, where he served as president of the Footlights theatre club. Before becoming known as a screenwriter, he supported himself through a series of temporary jobs. His breakthrough came in 2011 with the BBC crime series *Death in Paradise*. Thorogood also wrote several novels featuring detective DI Richard Poole and worked as a novelist and screenwriter.
