Richard Dawkins, born in 1941 in Nairobi, Kenya, is a British evolutionary biologist and author. He studied biology at Oxford and taught there until 2008, first as a lecturer in zoology and later as a professor. From 1995 to 2008, he held the Charles Simonyi Professorship for the Public Understanding of Science at the University of Oxford. He became internationally known in 1976 with his book *The Selfish Gene*, an influential work in evolutionary biology. His other well-known books include *The God Delusion*; he also published critical works on creationism and religion.
