Renée Schroeder, born in Brazil in 1953, is a biochemist and molecular biologist. She studied biochemistry in Vienna and New York and worked in research and teaching at the University of Vienna for more than 40 years, where she headed the Department of Biochemistry and Cell Biology. Her scientific work includes research on RNA. From 2001 to 2005, she served as a member of the Austrian government’s Bioethics Commission. She was named Austria’s Scientist of the Year in 2002 and received the Wittgenstein Prize in 2003 and the Eduard Buchner Prize in 2011.
