Remco Campert

Remco Campert (1929–2022) was a Dutch writer. He wrote poetry, short stories and novels, and also worked as a translator, editor, publishing editor and columnist. He grew up in The Hague and Amsterdam and spent extended periods in Paris and Antwerp during the 1950s and 1960s. From 1969 to 1979, he worked as an editor at the Dutch publishing house De Bezige Bij. His first novel became a bestseller in the Netherlands in 1961, and his collected work comprises around 100 titles. Campert’s father, the writer Jan Campert, died at Neuengamme concentration camp in 1943.
