Ray Bradbury (1920–2012) was an American writer and screenwriter. He was born in Waukegan, Illinois, and died in Los Angeles. He became widely known for the story collections *The Martian Chronicles* (1950) and *The Illustrated Man* (1951), as well as the novel *Fahrenheit 451* (1953). In addition to novels and short stories, Bradbury wrote poetry, essays, plays, and screenplays, including the screenplay for John Huston’s film adaptation of *Moby-Dick*. His extensive body of work earned him numerous awards.
