Rainer Funk (born 1943) is a philosopher and theologian with a doctorate, as well as a psychoanalyst. He wrote his doctoral thesis on Erich Fromm’s social psychology and ethics and served as Fromm’s assistant from 1974 until Fromm’s death in 1980. As Fromm’s literary executor and administrator of his estate, Funk established the Erich Fromm Archive from Fromm’s library and papers. He edited the Erich Fromm Collected Works and other writings from the estate, and published works on Fromm as well as on contemporary psychoanalysis and social psychology. His books include »Erich Fromm heute«, »Ich und Wir«, and »Der entgrenzte Mensch«. He also wrote an introduction to Fromm’s life and work, published in English as »Life Itself Is an Art«.
