Pu Yi (1906–?) was enthroned as the Xuantong Emperor of China at the age of two. He abdicated in 1912 but remained in Beijing until his expulsion in 1924. In 1934, he became emperor of Manchukuo, a state dependent on Japan. After the end of the Second World War, he was taken into Soviet captivity and extradited to China in 1950, where he underwent seven years of re-education. In 1959, he received a pardon from Mao Zedong.
