Philipp Oehmke (born 1974) grew up in Bonn and studied German literature in Hamburg. After completing an internship at the magazine Tempo, he earned a Master of Science in Journalism from Columbia University in 2001. From 2002 to 2006, he worked as an editor at the Süddeutsche Zeitung magazine, where he also edited the 50-volume series “SZ-Diskothek.” He subsequently worked in the culture department of the news magazine Der Spiegel and headed its New York bureau from 2015 to 2020. In 2014, Oehmke published “Am Anfang war der Lärm,” a biography of the rock band Die Toten Hosen; the book spent several weeks among the top ten on the Spiegel bestseller list.
