Philipp Blom, born in Hamburg in 1970, studied philosophy, history and Jewish studies in Vienna and Oxford, where he earned a doctorate in history in 1996. He is an author and historian whose work includes historical nonfiction, novels and essays. His best-known books include “The Vertigo Years” (2009), “The Fracture” (2014), “Die Welt aus den Angeln” (2017), “Was auf dem Spiel steht” (2017) and “Die Unterwerfung” (2022). Blom has also worked as a journalist, radio presenter and filmmaker, contributing to films and documentary series. His work has received several awards, including the NDR Kultur Sachbuchpreis and the Friedrich Schiedel Literature Prize.
