Petros Markaris

Petros Markaris, born in Istanbul in 1937, is a playwright and crime novelist. He worked as a co-writer with film director Theo Angelopoulos and translated works by German dramatists including Bertolt Brecht and Johann Wolfgang von Goethe into Greek. He began writing crime novels in the mid-1990s and achieved international recognition. His honors include the Pepe Carvalho Award and the Goethe Medal.
