Peter-Michael Diestel was born in Prora in 1952. From 1978 to 1989, he headed the legal department of the Agrar-Industrie-Vereinigung Delitzsch. In 1990, he served as Minister of the Interior of the GDR and represented it in negotiations on the Unification Treaty. He also published autobiographical books.
