Peter-Erwin Jansen, born in 1957, studied philosophy (M.A.), German studies, sociology and politics in Frankfurt am Main. He worked as a scholarly writer and as an educator in political education, including at the Fritz Bauer Institute and the Institute for Social Research. From 2009 to 2021, he taught social sciences at Hochschule Koblenz, including as an acting professor; in 2019, he was a visiting professor at the University of California, Santa Barbara. Jansen represented the owners of the estates of Herbert Marcuse and Leo Löwenthal and served as one of the directors of the International Herbert Marcuse Society. He published and edited numerous works relating to Marcuse, Löwenthal and critical theory.
