Peter Brook (born in London in 1925) was an internationally active director. He became known for distinctive Shakespeare productions and radical adaptations of contemporary plays and novels, including works by Marguerite Duras and William Golding. In 1970, he co-founded the International Centre for Theatre Research at the Bouffes du Nord, leading its international ensemble as artistic director until 2008. Brook received numerous awards and honors.
