Penelope Fitzgerald

Penelope Fitzgerald (1916–2000) was an English writer. She studied in Oxford and worked for the BBC during the Second World War. She later taught at the Italia Conti Academy and Queen’s Gate School in London and spent several years working in a bookshop in Southwold, Suffolk. In 1979, she received the Booker Prize; in 1998, she became the first non-American author to receive the National Book Critics Circle Award for Fiction.
