Paulus van Husen

Paulus van Husen (1891–1971) was a German lawyer and politician. After studying law and serving in the First World War, he worked in the political administration of Silesia from 1920 and became active in the Catholic Centre Party. From 1934 to 1940 he served at the Prussian Higher Administrative Court in Berlin; his refusal to join the Nazi Party prevented his promotion there. From 1940 he was a cavalry captain on the Wehrmacht leadership staff and maintained contacts with the Kreisau Circle. Following the 20 July 1944 attempt on Hitler’s life, he was arrested and imprisoned. After the Second World War, he was among the co-founders of the CDU in Berlin. From 1949 to 1959 he served as president of the Higher Administrative Court and the Constitutional Court of North Rhine-Westphalia.
