Paula Fox (1923–2017) was an American writer. Born in New York, she worked for many years as a teacher and tutor after studying at Columbia University. She turned to writing in her forties. Fox wrote novels, children’s and young adult books, and two memoirs. Her work received, among other honors, the German Youth Literature Prize, the National Book Award, the Newbery Medal, and the 1978 Hans Christian Andersen Award.
