Patrick Leigh Fermor (1915–2011) was a British travel writer and author. In 1933, at the age of eighteen, he undertook a celebrated journey on foot from Rotterdam to Constantinople. During the Second World War, he served as a liaison officer in Greece and Crete, where he supported the resistance to the German occupation. In 1944, he was involved in the capture of the German general Heinrich Kreipe. In addition to travel books, he wrote a novel that originated during a stay in the Caribbean.
