Born in 1957, Patrick Deville is a French writer. He studied comparative literature and philosophy in Nantes, where he initially worked as a lecturer. In the 1980s, he lived in the Middle East, Nigeria and Algeria; in the 1990s, he travelled to Cuba, Uruguay, Central America and countries of the former Eastern Bloc. He founded the Maison des écrivains étrangers et des traducteurs (MEET) in Saint-Nazaire and its journal, Meet. His work has received several awards, including the Lire Best Novel of the Year award, the Prix Fnac and the Prix Femina.
