Pat Barker, born in 1943 in Thornaby-on-Tees, England, is an English writer. She began her literary career in her forties after attending a short-story course. The writer Angela Carter encouraged her to continue writing. Barker became particularly known for her “Regeneration” trilogy, comprising “Regeneration,” “The Eye in the Door,” and “The Ghost Road.” Her work has received numerous awards; in 1995 she won the Booker Prize, and in 2001 she received the WELT Literature Prize.
