Oleksij Tschupa was born in 1986 in Makiivka in eastern Ukraine. He studied Ukrainian philology at Donetsk University and has published numerous novels since 2014. His literary work explores the identity and social upheavals of the Donbas, as well as the history of the Soviet Union and the early years of Ukrainian independence. “Tales from My Air-Raid Shelter” was the first of his works to appear in German, in 2019.
