Norbert Lammert, born in Bochum in 1948, is a German politician of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU). He studied political science, sociology, modern history and socioeconomic studies in Bochum and Oxford and received his doctorate in 1975. He was a member of the German Bundestag from 1980 to 2017. In the governments of Helmut Kohl, he served from 1989 to 1998 as Parliamentary State Secretary in the ministries responsible for education and science, economic affairs, and transport, and as the federal government’s coordinator for aerospace. He was Vice President of the Bundestag from 2002 to 2005 and President from 2005 to 2017. In 2008, Ruhr University Bochum appointed him honorary professor.
