Nikolaus Piper (1952–2024), born in Hamburg, was an economics editor and U.S. correspondent for the Süddeutsche Zeitung, where he later headed the business section. He wrote nonfiction and books on economics, including “Die großen Ökonomen” and “Die Welt der Wirtschaft,” as well as the young-adult novel “Felix und das liebe Geld.” In 2001, he received the Ludwig Erhard Prize for Economic Journalism. “Felix und das liebe Geld” was also awarded, among other honors, the Quandt Media Prize.
