Dr. Natalie Gutgesell (born 1972 in Coburg, Germany) studied English and Romance languages and literature in Bamberg from 1991 to 1997, followed by art history, theatre and media studies in Erlangen-Nuremberg from 2005 to 2010. She received her doctorate in art history there in 2014 with a dissertation on Joseph Victor von Scheffel as a visual artist. Her publications and international projects have addressed the art and cultural history of the eighteenth to twentieth centuries, as well as research into the estates of overlooked women artists, with a particular focus on Eastern Europe.
