Nagib Machfus

Nagib Mahfouz (1911–2006) was an Egyptian writer. He authored more than forty novels, short stories, and novellas and is regarded as a formative figure in the Egyptian novel. In 1988, he became the first and, to date, only Arab author to receive the Nobel Prize in Literature. Mahfouz was born in Cairo and died there in 2006.
