Monika Richarz, born in Berlin in 1937, earned her doctorate in Jewish history there in 1970. She worked at the Leo Baeck Institute in New York, headed the Germania Judaica library in Cologne, and served as director of the Institute for the History of German Jews in Hamburg. Her research focuses on Jewish social history.
