Monika Helfer

Monika Helfer, born in 1947 in Au in the Bregenz Forest, is an Austrian writer. She published novels, short stories, and children’s books. Her notable works include “Schau mich an, wenn ich mit dir rede,” “Die Bagage,” “Vati,” “Löwenherz,” and “Die Jungfrau.” She was nominated for the German Book Prize for “Schau mich an, wenn ich mit dir rede” and “Vati,” and received the Schubart Literature Prize of the city of Aalen in 2021 for “Die Bagage.” Among other honors, she received the Austrian Prize for Literature, the Solothurn Literature Prize, and the Johann Peter Hebel Prize. She co-authored “Rosie und der Urgroßvater” with Michael Köhlmeier.
