Mischa Meier

Mischa Meier (born 1971) is a German ancient historian. He received his doctorate from Ruhr University Bochum in 1998 with a dissertation on early Sparta and completed his habilitation at Bielefeld University in 2002 with a study of the Eastern Roman Empire in the sixth century. In 2004, he became Professor of Ancient History at the University of Tübingen. His research focuses on Archaic and Classical Greece, the Roman imperial period, Late Antiquity, and the reception of antiquity. His major publications include Justinian (2004) and A History of the Migration Period (Geschichte der Völkerwanderung, 2019). He received the Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz Prize in 2022 and the WISSEN! nonfiction book prize from the wbg in 2021 for A History of the Migration Period.
