Milena Michiko Flašar, born in 1980 in St. Pölten, is an Austrian writer of Japanese-Austrian heritage. She studied comparative literature, German studies and Romance languages and literature in Vienna and Berlin. Her works include the novels “Ich bin” (2008), “Okaasan – Meine unbekannte Mutter” (2010) and “Ich nannte ihn Krawatte” (2012). For “Ich nannte ihn Krawatte,” she received the Austrian Alpha Literature Prize in 2012; the novel was also shortlisted for the German Book Prize and received the Euregio Student Literature Prize in 2015.
